Abstract
Urbanization refers to the increasing trend of people moving from rural areas to urban areas. This is a global phenomenon accelerated in recent decades due to unequal economic development, and difference of provision of basic infrastructure in rural and urban areas. People also migrate to escape war torn areas, political or ethnic conflicts and easy access to justice. People also move from rural areas to urban centers to avoid the impacts of climatic changes as well. Pakistan is also affecting due to increasing trends of urbanization. This rate of urbanization is causing drastic transition in demographic dynamics of the country. The process of urbanization is socially and economically driven. It has social and political implications but discourse on urbanization in Pakistan is restricted to economic, environmental and demographic understanding only.
